Patriots kicker Justin Rohrwasser has ‘Three Percenters’ tattoo removed

Before he even took the field for the first time as a member of the New England Patriots, Justin Rohrwasser already came under scrutiny. The rookie kicker, who was selected by the Patriots in the fifth-round of the draft out of Marshall, sported a tattoo on his left arm depicting the logo of the far-right militia group Three Percenters — a group that was classified as “anti-government” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Now, according to a report by TMZ, the tattoo has been removed. The 23-year-old therefore appears to have made good on an announcement he originally made during a media conference call after getting drafted in late April.

“I got that tattoo when I was a teenager and I have a lot of family in the military,” Rohrwasser said at the time. “I thought it stood for a military support symbol at the time. Obviously, it’s evolved into something that I do not want to represent. When I look back on it, I should have done way more research before I put any mark or symbol like that on my body, and it’s not something I ever want to represent. It will be covered.”

The process of removing the tattoo was reportedly started a short time after the draft, and has now been completed.

Rohrwasser is the favorite to serve as New England’s place kicker this year: with Stephen Gostkowski released, he is now the lone player at the position under contract.
