Sabrina Ionescu Shines In WNBA Rookie Debut With New York Liberty | WNBA
Sabrina Ionescu has arrived in the WNBA, though her career debut ended in defeat.
The No. 1 overall pick took the court for the first time Saturday in the New York Liberty’s opening game of the shortened season against the Seattle Storm, marking a new era for the team.
The Liberty fell 87-71 to the Storm and All-Stars Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird, who were both out last year due to injuries.
As for Ionescu, the Oregon product struggled shooting, going 4-for-15 from the field and 0-for-8 from three.
Still, no one is holding a little bit of rust against her after the coronavirus pandemic, and her all-around performance was solid.
Ionescu finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Not to mention, showed her handles while being defended against last season’s Defensive Player of the Year, Natasha Howard.
