Boston Podcast: Recapping the Mets and Previewing the Yankees series

0

The series against the Mets started off much like the Orioles series ended, with the Red Sox pitching digging themselves a deep hole early on. In game one, Josh Osich opened and gave up two runs, followed by Jeffery Springs, who gave up five, and just like that the Sox were too far behind. In game two, Matt Hall got the start and gave up two runs followed by Austin Brice, who gave up another three, and again the Red Sox were in a hole too deep for the bats to recover from. This marked the fourth consecutive game the Red Sox had given up at least seven runs.

The series took a turn however as the Red Sox took the next two games in New York to earn a split of the series (or technically a two game sweep if you’re squirrely) on the backs of good starting pitching from Eovaldi (5 innings, two runs, one walk, four strikeouts) and Martín Pérez (5 23 innings, two runs, two walks, four strikeouts). Brandon Workman also earned back to back saves while Christian Vázquez smacked three homers in two days.

Up next for the Red Sox is a three game set with the division-leading New York Yankees.
